COOKIES POLICY

What are Cookies?

Cookies are usually small text files stored on a device, such as a PC, a mobile device or any other device that can store information. Devices that may use cookies also include so-called ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) devices that connect to the internet.

Why Use Cookies?

Cookies serve a number of important functions, including to remember a user and their previous interactions with our website. They can be used, for example, to keep track of information when you input details into an online application form. Some cookies are necessary for our website to perform correctly. Certain cookies are also used to help web pages to load faster and to route information over a network.

We also use cookies to perform analytical and advertising functions. Analytical cookies help us to better understand how users engage with our websites. We will collect information like how many unique visitors access our websites, what pages are most popular and what type of devices website visitors use. This helps us to make informed decisions on how to design websites and provide users with a better online experience.

Advertising cookies are used to collect information like how many users engage with online forms and the figures that a user inputs to an online loan calculator. This information helps us to understand and report on the performance of our loan products and our digital marketing activities. We also use targeting cookies that are provided by third party advertising platforms like Facebook and Google and depending on whether you use these services and the consents you have provided to them and your browser settings, will collect information on the websites you visit and your location so that they can target advertising that is relevant to you when you use their platforms.

What Control do I Have?

On our websites you’ll find a cookies settings management tool, this will generally be displayed at the bottom of your screen. You can use this to either ‘Accept All’ cookies, or alternatively, click on ‘Settings’ where you can enable or disable each type of cookie. Certain necessary cookies cannot be disabled as these are vital to the performance of the website.

When you make a selection, we’ll remember your preferences, however, a cookies settings tag will remain visible at the bottom of your screen when you use our websites so you can easily update your preferences at any time.

The most popular web browsers also give you the ability to disable cookies through their browser settings. You should however be aware that disabling all cookies in your browser might impact the way some websites load and can cause a poor online browsing experience.

At the links below you can find out more about updating your cookie settings on the most popular web browsers:

If you use multiple browsers across multiple devices like a PC and a smartphone, you will need to update your preferences on each browser.

Is my Personal Data Used?

The information stored in cookies can include personal data, such as an IP address, a username, a unique identifier, or an email address. But it may also contain non-personal data such as language settings or information about the type of device you are using to browse the site.

Advertising IDs, user IDs and other tracking IDs may also be contained in cookies but the information collected is anonymous and we cannot use cookies to identify website visitors.

How long does the Cookie last?

Some cookies have an expiry date. Session cookies, for example, which are designed to only function for the duration of a browser session or slightly longer, are likely to have a very short lifespan or expiry date and tend to be set to expire once they have served their limited purpose. We always ensure the expiry date of a cookie is proportionate to its purpose.

Additional Information on third party cookie providers

As listed above, we use a number of third-party cookie providers, please find some additional information below;

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics uses cookies in order to evaluate your use of our website and this helps us to better understand how users engage with our website so that we can improve service and performance.

Google Analytics does not collect or store your personal information and Google Analytics prohibits the tracking or collection of personal information or association of personal information with web analytics information. Google Analytics does not report the actual IP address information to us.

What Google Analytic features are enabled by us?

The following Google Analytics Advertising features are enabled by us in our use of Google Analytics:

User ID

This assigns each user with a unique ID so that we can report on users who visit the site multiple times without compromising your anonymity and privacy.

With the unique ID, we can get more accurate data on the number of users visiting our websites and Google gets to understand your browsing habits so that they can target more relevant advertising to you when you access their platform or a website that embeds their advertising.

While Google Analytic cookies are targeting cookies, which use a unique ID and can track your visits around different websites, the information collected is anonymous and you will not be personally identifiable to either Google or to us.

Demographics reporting

Google Analytics helps us to better understand how our website visitors break down by age, gender, and interests.

Technical support

Google technical support representatives have access to our Google Analytics data and account when necessary to provide service and find solutions to technical issues.

It means that we advertise to previous visitors who haven’t completed a task on our site, for example not completing an application form. This could be in the form of an advertisement on a site in the Google Display Network. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on someone’s past visits to our website.

Third-party vendors, including DoubleClick, then use the cookies to serve ads on sites across the internet based on someone’s past visits to our website.

DoubleClick does not collect or store personal information.

The Facebook Retargeting Service uses the Facebook pixel on our website which is a small, invisible piece of code owned and operated by Facebook that tells Facebook to save visitors’ cookies to our website.

Our websites use the Facebook Retargeting service to advertise relevant CUDA marketing material on third party websites (including Facebook) to previous visitors to our site. It means that we advertise to previous visitors who haven’t completed a task on our site, for example not completing an online application. This could be in the form of an advertisement on a site in the Facebook network. Third-party vendors, including Facebook, use cookies to serve ads based on someone’s past visits to our website.

Facebook Custom Audiences

Facebook’s custom audiences feature enables us to create an audience list for sending ads through Facebook.

We use customer data such as email addresses and phone numbers to match (at an email address or telephone level) to Facebook users.

When we upload data to Facebook, this data is hashed and the resulting fingerprints are compared with hashed Facebook user email addresses or phone numbers. If we import an email address that’s unknown to Facebook, that record, once hashed, won’t match anything.

If a Facebook user clicks on an ad which has been sent to them because they are part of a custom audience list, a Facebook cookie installed on the Facebook website allows their user behaviour to be tracked. This enables us to measure the effectiveness of Facebook ads for statistical and market research purposes. The data collected in this way is anonymous to us, i.e. we do not see the personal data of individual users.

Opt-out

Users may opt out of Facebook Custom Audiences by visiting https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads.

Storage Location

This data is stored and processed by Facebook. Facebook may link this information to your Facebook account and also use it for its own promotional purposes, in accordance with Facebook’s Data Usage Policy. You can allow Facebook and its partners to place ads on and off Facebook. A cookie may also be stored on your computer for these purposes.
